It's Almost the Duncan Park Centennial!
And boy, have we been busy getting ready for it...
And boy, have we been busy getting ready for it:

The Friends of Duncan Park, the Spartanburg County Public Library, and the Hub City Spartanburgers have produced a timeline banner depicting the different eras in the history of the ballpark and the many teams that have played in each era.
The Library has also created a group of historical display boards depicting images and photographs from the stadium’s past. These will be installed temporarily for the event on July 11th, and afterwards they will become available for other events and occasions as well as perhaps a template or model for more permanent displays in a museum area or “avenue of history” along the concourse or elsewhere.
Spartanburg County School District Seven has funded a new restrooms facility for the stadium to replace the existing structure, which has become both an eyesore and the subject of much criticism. The new restrooms have been constructed and are ready for transportation from North Carolina to Spartanburg; they are currently awaiting the issuance of necessary state permits.
Later this summer Dr. Layton Revel will come to Spartanburg as a stadium consultant with the Friends of Duncan Park. Dr. Revel is the Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Negro League Baseball Research in Dallas and the Founder of the Negro Southern League Museum in Birmingham, which houses the largest collection of Negro League memorabilia in the world. He has consulted on the preservation and restoration of old ballparks in Texas, Tennessee, and elsewhere, and the Friends of Duncan Park have talked with him on a number of individual and conference calls during the last couple of years. This summer he is coming to the Hub City to see the new Fifth Third Park and to meet with representatives of the Friends about the future utilization and financing of Duncan Park Stadium. Among the top priorities to be discussed will be applying for grant funding and the identification of potential sources for the creation of an endowment to generate steady income for major projects.
