Welcome to a special post on the beautifulduncanpark.com blog! This will be the shortest post ever, but it is an important one.
I wanted to announce—or remind you if you have already seen this notice—that tomorrow, May 16, 2025, the Spartanburg County Historical Association will host a special Lunch and Learn presentation at 12:30 at the Chapman Center in downtown Spartanburg.
Most of you know that in addition to being the Director of the Youth Sports Bureau, Luther is the son-in-law of Little Newt Whitmire, the owner of the Spartanburg Sluggers, and is Spartanburg’s resident expert in Negro Leagues baseball.
In addition to having a unique perspective on the Sluggers and Negro Leagues ball, Luther also owns a huge amount of Negro Leagues memorabilia, photographs, and ephemera and will bring some of these special items to the Chapman Center on Friday.
Attendance at this Lunch and Learn event is only $5.00—free if you are a member of the Historical Association—but SPACE IS LIMITED, SO YOU MUST PREREGISTER. To register or for more information, go to the Association’s website (www.spartanburghistory.org) or call (864) 576-6546. I hope to see you Friday; you won’t be disappointed.
